BACKGROUND: Nanatsu no Taizai Wikia

PERSONALITY: Despite the battles and fighting Diane is involved in, she has a generally positive and upbeat personality. Though she's over seven centuries old, Diane is still the equivalent of a teenager by her clan's standards, and can suffer from the same naivete and inexperience you'd expect from a 16 year old despite the relative age. She can get excited and flustered as easily as she gets jealous or angry. Her moodswings can come on quickly, and she has a hell of a temper that's most often set off by enemies or the object of her affections flirting with other women- which is unfortunate considering what happens when a woman 30 feet tall has a tantrum.

Like you might expect from a stereotypical teenage girl, Diane has an interest in clothing and girl's talk, and reacts giddily to a bit of attention from the people she likes or from praise. She's overly affectionate and openly declares her feelings for others, yet she can be incredibly dense about other people's feelings for her, (see: not realizing someone likes her, having to ask a girl if they're friends). Diane has a big (haha) complex about her height, and though she may be a strong giant, she has a desire to be treated "like a normal girl", and sometimes expresses a wish that she was human-sized. Despite her general energetic and gung-ho attitude, as well as her bold declarations when feeling confident, Diane can sometimes be quite shy, anxiously covering her face with her hair when around someone she likes or complimented.

Though she often tries to say she doesn't care about the humans and their countries and all their troubles, like she's above it all and only out for her own selfish interests, the fact of the matter is that over the time she's spent as a member of the Seven Deadly Sins she's acquired a lot of empathy and care for people, especially the smallest people like children, the elderly, and the innocent. Even if she tries to downplay it, she's willing to put her body on the line even for total strangers who get put in danger by the activities and battles around her.

Diane's dedication to people once established is unshakable, and once her friendship has been earned, she's willing to go to hell and back for the people she loves, whether it means fighting against the unspeakably powerful or risking her own life.
When she was younger, Diane didn't fit in with the battle-hungry nature of her clan, and left them to live on her own- but it turned out loneliness didn't suit her either. Though she's left those days behind, the thing Diane hates the most is being alone, and a fear of being left behind by her companions is still one of her strongest. Even more than bugs. Afraid of being left by her childhood friend/sweetheart, she even went so far as to extract a promise that he would always love her, and in more recent canon it tears her up that he might have left her behind because she wasn't quick enough at admitting her feelings.

More than anything, Diane treasures her companions, the Seven Deadly Sins, and is willing to do most anything for them. She initially fell in love with their captain, Meliodas, (though that is implied only to have happened because she'd lost her memories of who she was really in love with), after he stepped in to a conflict between her and some human knights- the first time anyone had ever treated her as someone who might need help or asked her if she was alright as if she wasn't impossibly strong. Knowing that with her size there was nothing she could do for Meliodas besides fight, she dedicated herself to doing so for him, even though she'd been opposed to the Giant's lifestyle of fighting before, and despite knowing in a part of herself that he would never really look her way.

Because the lifespan of a Giant is so much longer than a human's, it would be easy for Diane to disconnect from it all- when she was younger the days blurred together, and decades would pass in what seemed like days, the humans around her aging and dying while she remained largely the same. Since joining the Seven Deadly Sins, however, she's anchored herself in their lives and the lives of humans, invested and committed to helping them and to enjoying her own life.

When the time comes for battle Diane is serious and committed, especially when lives are on the line, but she can still be flustered by surprises like bugs or cheap tricks. Outside of the battle, though, her behavior isn't all that different from a normal teenager... if not one more than three stories tall.

ABILITIES: As a member of the Giant Clan, Diane's strength lies in her... strength. Her physical prowess is daunting, able to haul back and shotput throw people for miles, hold up crumbling buildings, punch through walls with ease, and cause earthquake-like tremors if she stomps her feet. A more quantifiable measure of her strength can be found in the fact that her warhammer Gideon weighs over a ton, (2,200 pounds, to be exact), and she doesn't always wield two-handed. She also has a high level of endurance and stamina, and because of this often uses her body as a shield for other smaller/weaker party members.

Another aspect of her Giant heritage is her ability to use "Creation", which is said to stem from the Giant clan's close relationship to nature. Diane is able to manipulate the earth in various ways, such as converting her own body into hard metal to increase her mass and defensive capabilities, turning solid ground into pits of sand in order to entrap enemies, or summoning stones pillars and jagged spears of rock to attack. Some of her most advanced techniques involve creating shambling golems of rock that in her youth she named Fillet and Loin. She is capable of even more intense acts, but not without her Sacred Treasure, the warhammer Gideon, which she won't be coming in to the game with.

If you'd like the more shounen-style list of her attacks complete with silly shounen-style names, you can find it here.
